How much does a full-home repaint cost in Auckland?
A full-home repaint on a standard 3-bedroom house is priced as two parts: the exterior, typically $12,000 to $25,000+, and the interior, typically $8,000 to $15,000+. If the roof is sound but due for a new coating, roof restoration is a third part, typically $3,500 to $8,000+.
Treat these as a guide, not a quote. A bigger, taller or more detailed house costs more, and so does one that needs more repair. On Auckland jobs, awkward access, the scaffolding a house needs and limited parking can all lift a price towards the upper end.

Full-home repaints
What does a full-home repaint include?
A full-home repaint usually covers ceilings, walls, doors, frames and skirtings inside, and cladding, eaves, fascias, bargeboards and timber joinery outside, with the roof added when it is due. Your written quote lists every surface in scope and anything excluded, so nothing is assumed.
The exterior work depends on the cladding. Weatherboards need every lower edge prepared and painted, villas add detailed trim and joinery, and plaster and monolithic homes need cracks repaired properly and a coating system that suits the cladding.
You can do it all in one programme or stage it around weather, a renovation, a move or your budget. When stages share scaffolding or colour decisions, planning them together avoids repeating set-up and keeps the finish consistent.
Living at home
Can you stay in your house while it is painted?
Usually, yes. We agree a room order, daily access and the rooms that must stay usable, so the painting does not take over the whole house.
Before the start we talk through children, pets, alarms, parking and ventilation. Floors are covered, furniture that stays in a room is wrapped, and the work area is left tidy at the end of each day. An exterior-first programme leaves the inside of the house untouched until the outside is finished.
Preparation
What preparation does a whole house need?
Inside, a whole house usually needs some filling, sanding and spot priming, with stain blocking or plaster repairs where needed. Outside, expect washing, scraping and priming, plus mould treatment, timber repairs and crack treatment where the surfaces call for them. Preparation decides how long the new paint lasts, so your quote should show it surface by surface instead of hiding it inside a vague allowance for paint.

If your house was painted before about 1980, older layers may contain lead-based paint. Intact lead paint is not usually a hazard, but sanding and scraping create toxic dust, so suspect paint should be tested and the removal method, dust control and clean-up written into the quote.

Colour
How do you choose colours for a whole house?
Test colours on your own walls, in your own light, before you commit. A small chip looks different on a large wall, and a sample patch on site shows the colour in morning and afternoon light.
Treat the house as one scheme: body, trim, joinery and roof should work together, and with the style of the house and its neighbours. Choose sheen by how each room is used, with finishes that clean well in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. A big change, such as dark to light, can need an extra coat, and some claddings are not suited to very dark exterior colours, so ask before you settle on one.

How long does a full-home repaint take?
As a guide, the interior of a whole home often takes one to two weeks, and the exterior is a separate programme that depends on repairs, scaffolding and dry weather. Outside, paint needs dry days, temperatures within the product's limits and drying time between coats, so allow for rain days. Inside, the work usually goes room by room, so you can plan around the rooms that are out of use each day. Your written quote sets out the expected timing for your house.
How do fixed residential quotes work?
After a site visit you receive a written quote for an agreed scope, and the price is fixed for that scope. It only changes if the brief changes or hidden defects appear that could not reasonably be seen at quote stage.
Do you paint new builds and renovations?
Yes. New plasterboard, rooms after wallpaper removal and character-home refreshes are all common. Where strong side light, dark colours or a higher sheen would show joints and texture, we usually recommend a Level 5 finish.
What should I do before the painters arrive?
